Leave a Lasting Legacy

Whatever your stage in life, planned giving can benefit you and your loved ones while helping to protect Alberta’s environment for generations to come.

Planned gifts can take several forms including bequests, gifts of securities, and gifts of RRSPs and RIFFs. In many cases, these gifts can result in significant tax savings. Below is further information on how you can leave a gift for the future.

If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to email Executive Director Kathryn Melrose at kathryn@abcee.org.

Gifts in Your Will

When you make a gift to ACEE in your will or living trust, you will be making a lasting difference for our efforts to develop the next generation of environmental stewards.

One of the simplest ways that you can include a legacy gift is through a bequest. Bequests have no impact on your current lifestyle and can be updated at any time, providing you flexibility for unanticipated expenses or life events.

We recommend speaking with your financial advisor or lawyer to start preparing your will, or to add a gift in your existing will.

Sample language for a residual bequest: “I bequeath _______% of the residue of my estate to the Alberta Council for Environmental Education (Charitable Registration Number 83043 5079 RR0001, address 314 - 4649 Macleod Trail SW, Calgary, AB, T2G 0A6) to support its ongoing education work.”

Sample language for a specific bequest: “I give the sum of $____________ (or % of my overall estate, or description of property) to the Alberta Council for Environmental Education (Charitable Registration Number 83043 5079 RR0001, address 314 - 4649 Macleod Trail SW, Calgary, AB, T2G 0A6) to support its ongoing education work.”

Gifts of RRSPs and RIFFs

By naming the Alberta Council for Environmental Education beneficiary of all or a percentage of the funds, a tax receipt for the value of the gift will be issued to your estate and the tax credit will offset almost all applicable taxes.

It’s easy to make this gift outside of your Will. You can change your designations at any time simply by contacting your retirement plan administrator for a change-of-beneficiary form. You can also make ACEE the contingent beneficiary, so that we will only receive the balance of your policy if your primary beneficiary does not survive you.

Gifts of Securities

Donating appreciated securities is simple, cost-effective and the most tax-efficient way to make a charitable gift today or through your estate.  Visit our Gifts of Securities page to learn more, and to download a copy of our transfer form.
