Green Commuting Challenge

Teacher Debbie Rheinstein led the Green Commuting Challenge at Captain Nichola Goddard School. The annual commuting challenge reduces the schools' carbon footprint and increases daily activity through active transportation. Each year, the entire school participates in an annual 7 week Green Commuting Challenge (GCC).  During this period, the students and staff walk, bike, or skateboard to school as often as possible in an effort to increase our daily physical activity, reduce our vehicular traffic in the community, and reduce our carbon footprint.  For the duration of the Green Commuting Challenge, each student's and staff member's green commutes are tracked on a daily basis and a group of grade 9 leadership students analyses our data to determine accumulated alternative transportation kilometres and greenhouse gas reductions.
