We wanted to ensure that the key concepts and student learning outcomes in the Curriculum for a Sustainable Future can be used in Alberta classrooms, and add value to classroom teaching and learning. The answer is YES. This powerful learning story from Kaeli Benoit's grades 1 and 2 class is one of 13 that showcases the use of the Curriculum for a Sustainable Future.

Growing Our Own Food
Kaeli Benoit, Alpenglow School, Grades 1 and 2 - Canadian Rockies Public Schools
Students explored where their food comes from after creating questions based on where the food in their lunches came from. They explored their community to find answers to their questions - the grocery store, farmer's market and community garden. The students experienced all stages of growing their own food from planting, growing, and caring. They enjoyed the 'fruits of their labour' by harvesting and cooking stone soup, apple juice and bread. Students are now enthusiastic about growing their own food and expanded their pallets by trying different foods they grew.
