Inspiring fellow students through climate presentations

March 2022

Written by AYLEE member Avry K.

Two years ago I realized I wanted to be involved in climate change, I wanted to do my part. Based on what I was good at and what I liked to do, I decided that presenting to my fellow students about climate change was the best way that I could have an impact.

Following this realization, I began my journey. I wrote a complete hour long presentation for my school, but when I approached my admin team, I was turned down. It was a difficult step back to take. I had spent dozens of hours on my presentation and I wasn't allowed to put it into practice.

However, this event catalyzed my involvement with AYLEE along with the rest of my climate initiatives over the last two years. Throughout my time at AYLEE I have continued to push for in-school presentations.

Finally, in early 2022, the rest of the team and I had completed the scripts and slides and were ready to go. In March of 2022, after two full years of hard work and persistence, I presented to classes in my school three times.

From there, I have also presented twice to schools outside of my own and will continue presenting to youth throughout the rest of the school year and the summer. One of the first climate goals I had ever set had finally come to fruition and in the eyes of those I presented to I saw hope. When I stood in front of my peers and other youth, I felt a bright fire of determination and hope ignite in me. I realized first hand that I am not alone in my passion for climate change. Presenting to my peers has encouraged me to continue to devote my time to ensuring that this beautiful planet of ours will be around for ages to come and I cannot wait to continue to multiply my impact throughout post secondary and beyond.

I cannot thank AYLEE enough for giving me the opportunity to achieve this dream of mine and find this burning passion that will last through the rest of my life. AYLEE has changed my life for the better and I owe the organization so much because of that.
