Two AYLEE members – Jack Levy and Sasha Adamova – presented at Inside Education’s Calgary Regional Generate youth summit at Heritage Park on sustainability and innovation. They inspired students to take actions in their local and global community through sharing about the need for more environmental education in Alberta K-12 schooling, their own experiences with activism in the education system both within their schools and at the system level, and valuable resources such as EcoSchools and the AYLEE Green Leaders Kit.

Jack and Sasha also participated in an energy fair to learn about diverse types of renewable energy and their economic viability through interactive games, quizzes, and virtual reality. Students had the opportunity to hear from leaders in the energy industry including Chris Brown from Calgary Economic Development, Neil Ethier from Eavor Geothermal, and Jaeson Cardiff from CleanO2. Jack and Sasha got to partake in fascinating discussions on topics such as the economic potential for renewable energy, geothermal energy in Alberta, and lastly a deep dive into carbon-capturing technology, where carbon dioxide is used to make soap! The two AYLEE members got to tag along in a tour of the U of C’s solar and electric vehicles. When the event came to a close, Jack and Sasha had an enlightening discussion with the Executive Director at the Youth Climate Lab, Jasveen Brar, about activism, social justice, and the climate movement.
